An Oregon State Police trooper’s patrol vehicle was rammed by a motorist on Interstate 5 near the Market Street exit on Friday, according to OSP. The lieutenant had been attempting to stop the vehicle when the collision occurred, causing the patrol vehicle to spin and hit a barrier on northbound I-5. The motorist fled northbound but was eventually stopped and arrested in the Salem area. The lieutenant sustained minor injuries from the crash.
OSP and the Marion County Sheriff’s Office are conducting an investigation into the incident and have stated that no further information will be released at this time. As a result of the incident, traffic on the interstate was backed up to Kuebler Boulevard until the lanes were reopened.
In another incident, northbound traffic near the Jefferson exit was also backed up on Friday morning due to a separate crash, as reported by the Oregon Department of Transportation’s TripCheck. However, as of noon, there were no longer any delays in the area.
