Iceland Cricket Makes Funny Request to ICC to Host Champions Trophy 2025
Iceland Cricket has taken to social media with a hilarious post expressing their interest in hosting the Champions Trophy 2025. This comes amid rumors that Pakistan may lose the hosting rights due to India’s refusal to travel for the tournament. The political tensions between India and Pakistan have prevented them from playing a bilateral series for nearly a decade, leading to speculation that the tournament could be moved to Dubai. In response to these reports, Iceland Cricket has written a letter filled with jokes about their challenging weather conditions and lack of standard cricket grounds, in an attempt to secure the hosting rights.
“We are not people who hold back. We have today issued our bid to host the Champions Trophy of 2025, and we look forward to hearing what Greg Barclay of the ICC has to say about it,” said Iceland Cricket in their post.
This is not the first time Iceland Cricket has made headlines with their humor. Earlier, they took a dig at Pakistan star batter Babar Azam, who recently stepped down as the captain of the team across formats. Babar’s decision came after Pakistan’s disappointing exit from the Cricket World Cup 2023, where they failed to qualify for the semi-finals. Iceland Cricket trolled Babar over his average performance in the tournament, where he scored only 320 runs in nine matches, with an average of less than 40.
The captaincy of Babar Azam came under scrutiny after Pakistan’s surprising loss to Afghanistan in the World Cup. With five defeats in nine matches, Pakistan finished fifth in the points table. Consequently, team director Mickey Arthur and head coach Grant Bradburn were removed from their positions, and former skipper Mohammad Hafeez took over both roles.
Iceland Cricket’s funny request to the ICC has gone viral, capturing the attention of cricket fans worldwide. While it remains to be seen if the ICC will consider their bid to host the prestigious tournament, it is clear that Iceland Cricket has made a lasting impression with their wit and humor.
