The IDF has presented evidence that Hamas used a hospital basement in Gaza City to hide weapons and potentially hold hostages. IDF spokesman Rear Admiral Daniel Hagari revealed the information, stating that Hamas was using hospitals as hiding places and that they would expose this to the world. The evidence included video footage showing weapons stored under the Rantisi Children’s Hospital and rooms believed to be used for holding hostages. One room had window curtains covering a tiled wall and a calendar of guard shifts starting on 7 October, the day Hamas sent terrorists to Israel. Hagari claimed that restraints had been applied to hostages, pointing to a woman’s robe and rope placed next to a chair. The chair was under equipment supplied by the World Health Organization, with a baby bottle on top and diapers underneath. Hagari accused international organizations that fund hospitals of promoting terror. The evidence also revealed temporary kitchens, bathrooms, ventilation pipes, and a motorcycle allegedly used to transport hostages into Gaza. Israel is continuing its investigations into whether hostages were actually held there, and forensic teams were sent to the site. Among the weapons found in the basement were suicide bomb vests, grenades, AK-47 assault rifles, explosive devices, RPGs, and other weapons. Hagari described the area as a Hamas command-and-control center. Israel has long accused Hamas of using hospitals to hide military infrastructure and using patients as human shields. International law grants hospitals special protection during war, but that protection can be lost if combatants use them to hide fighters or store weapons. According to Gaza’s Hamas-run health ministry, over 11,000 Palestinians, mostly women and minors, have been killed since the war began.
