Leopard Roaming Bengaluru For Days Tragically Killed in Failed Capture Operation

A leopard that had been on the loose in Bengaluru for several days was shot dead during an attempt to capture it. The incident occurred after the leopard injured forest officials, leading to shots being fired to neutralize the animal. The wounded leopard was then taken to a veterinary hospital, where it succumbed to its injuries.

The Chief Wildlife Warden had granted permission to open fire on the leopard after it attacked Dr. Kiran and another officer, causing serious injuries. Lingraja, CCF Bangalore Circle, confirmed this, stating, “The leopard attacked Dr. Kiran and one more officer. They sustained grievous injuries. The Chief Wildlife Warden had granted permission to open fire to neutralize the wild cat.”

The leopard was finally captured in the Kudlu gate area of Bengaluru after an extensive search operation. It was initially sighted in the Singasandra area near Electronic City on Saturday night, with CCTV footage showing the leopard being chased by stray dogs. Prompt action was taken by forest officials and police teams upon discovering the video. The forest department had set up four cages to capture the elusive leopard.

According to reports, on October 29, the leopard was observed entering an apartment in Kudlu. The Singasandra area, where it was first spotted, is in close proximity to Bengaluru’s Bannerghatta National Park.

The incident has raised concerns about human-wildlife conflict and the safety of both residents and animals in the city. Wildlife officials and authorities continue to work towards finding solutions to prevent such incidents in the future.
