The government stated on Saturday that it is prepared to discuss all issues during the Winter session of Parliament, as long as the opposition creates a conducive environment in the House. Political party leaders met in New Delhi to discuss the agenda for the upcoming session, with opposition leaders raising concerns about the English nomenclature of three bills aiming to replace criminal laws, as well as issues of price rise, alleged misuse of probe agencies, and Manipur.
During a press briefing, Parliamentary Affairs Minister Pralhad Joshi confirmed that the government is ready to discuss all matters. However, he emphasized the importance of the opposition ensuring a favorable environment for discussions to take place. Mr. Joshi expressed the government’s readiness for a structured debate and urged the opposition to allow the House to function smoothly. He also acknowledged that the government has positively considered the opposition’s suggestions.
Mr. Joshi revealed that 19 bills and two financial items are currently under consideration. The meeting, convened by Mr. Joshi, was attended by senior leaders including Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, Commerce Minister Piyush Goyal, Congress leaders Jairam Ramesh, Gaurav Gogoi, and Pramod Tiwari, Trinamool leader Sudip Bandyopadhyay, NCP leader Fouzia Khan, and RSP leader N K Premachandran, among others.
The Winter session of Parliament is scheduled to commence on December 4 and will have 15 sittings until December 22. During this period, important draft legislations, including three bills to replace colonial-era criminal laws, are expected to be considered. Additionally, the report from the Lok Sabha panel recommending the expulsion of Trinamool leader Mahua Moitra from the lower house over a “cash-for-query” complaint will be tabled on Monday, the first day of the session.
