A Texas woman has been charged with the murder of her 6-year-old son, who has been missing for a year. Cindy Rodriguez-Singh, 38, was indicted on Monday by a Tarrant County grand jury on charges including capital murder, injury to a child, and abandoning a child without intent to return. The announcement was made by Everman Police Chief Craig Spencer at a press conference.
Despite extensive searches in and around Everman, where the family resided, the body of Noel Rodriguez-Alvarez has not yet been discovered. Investigators believe that Noel was last seen in late October 2022. Chief Spencer expressed hope that the indictments would aid in apprehending Rodriguez-Singh and bringing her back to the United States from India. While he was unsure if she had been located, he noted that federal authorities were actively involved in the case. It is currently unknown if Rodriguez-Singh has legal representation.
The investigation into this tragic case began in March when officers visited the family’s residence following a tip from Child Protective Services, indicating that Noel had not been seen for some time. Just two days later, Rodriguez-Singh, her husband, and their six other children flew to India.
Chief Spencer revealed that Noel, who had mental and developmental disabilities, had never been enrolled in school. Furthermore, family members have alleged that he suffered abuse and neglect. According to their accounts, Rodriguez-Singh would withhold food and water from the child as she disliked changing his diapers.
Correction: In this story, Cindy Rodriguez-Singh’s age has been corrected to 38, instead of 37.
