MP and Women Panel Chief Engage in Heated Exchange Over Nitish Kumar’s Offensive Comment

Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar’s comments on the importance of women’s education in controlling the population have sparked a heated exchange between Rajya Sabha member Priyanka Chaturvedi and the chairperson of the National Commission for Women (NCW), Rekha Sharma. Kumar’s remarks in the Assembly have caused a major controversy, with critics accusing him of violating the decorum of the House. Sharma, demanding an apology from the Chief Minister, stated that such comments undermine the dignity and respect of women and questioned the state’s condition under his leadership.

Sharma also called on women leaders from the Opposition, including Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, Atishi, and Priyanka Chaturvedi, to condemn Kumar’s remarks. Chaturvedi responded by condemning derogatory language towards women regardless of political affiliation and expressing confidence that Kumar will apologize for his words.

In a further exchange, Sharma claimed that she had approached Chaturvedi with evidence against a former party colleague but received no action. Chaturvedi responded by questioning why Sharma had not taken action herself, stating that she had not prevented Sharma from doing so and suggesting that her loyalty to her party and allies may be hindering her. Chaturvedi urged Sharma to bring the allegations into the public domain and pursue them with relevant authorities.

Nitish Kumar has since apologized for his remarks.
