NASA has successfully brought back dust and fragments from an asteroid called Bennu, marking the first time such material has been returned to Earth for study. The Osiris-Rex spacecraft, which was launched over seven years ago from Cape Canaveral, collected the samples nearly three years ago. On Sunday, the spacecraft released a capsule containing the samples, which landed in Utah and was later transported to a cleanroom. The samples will be moved to Johnson Space Center in Houston for further analysis. This mission provides scientists with a unique opportunity to uncover more about our solar system’s secrets. Osiris-Rex will now continue its journey to the asteroid Apophis, where it may attempt to dislodge dust and small fragments for study. Apophis is an important target due to its classification as a potentially hazardous asteroid.
