A police dog hailed as a hero was tragically stabbed to death while assisting in the search for an armed robbery suspect. The incident took place on Friday night, as deputies from the Pima County Sheriff’s Department in the US were on the lookout for two male suspects. At around 8 p.m., authorities observed a man entering a fenced-in commercial yard.
In an effort to locate the suspects, the deputies deployed K-9 officer Kenzo to search the area. However, when Kenzo failed to return, the deputies grew concerned and began their own search. To their horror, they discovered Kenzo lying next to one of the suspects, gravely injured. The department stated that the injuries sustained by Kenzo were consistent with stab wounds, and despite their best efforts to save him, the brave canine could not be revived. A necropsy will be conducted to further investigate the cause of death.
The Pima County Sheriff’s Department expressed deep sorrow over the loss of K-9 Kenzo, emphasizing the risks faced by both deputies and their loyal K-9 partners in the line of duty. The community also mourned the loss, with the Arizona Law Enforcement Canine Association paying tribute to Kenzo on Instagram.
