Report: Woman in Paris Threatened to Blow Herself Up Before Being Shot

French police shot and injured a woman who was making threats at a train station in Paris, according to a police source. Witnesses reported that the woman, who was wearing a full veil, shouted “Allahu akbar” (God is Greatest) and made threats. The police decided to fire because they feared for their safety. Passengers on a suburban train alerted the police, who were able to isolate the woman at the Bibliotheque Francois Mitterrand station in the south bank of the capital. The Paris prosecutor’s office stated that she threatened to blow herself up and police fired one shot, causing a life-threatening injury.

The prosecutor’s office has initiated two investigations. One will examine the woman’s actions, while the other will determine whether the police’s use of a firearm was justified. France has been on “attack alert” since October 13, when an Islamist former pupil stabbed a teacher to death in the northern city of Arras.
