A tragic incident occurred on a Mexican beach when a 26-year-old woman lost her life after being attacked by a shark, as reported by Metro. The incident took place near the beach in Melaque, close to the seaport of Manzanillo. Maria Fernandez Martinez Jimenez was swimming with her five-year-old daughter when the shark attacked. In a brave act of motherly instinct, Maria tried to lift her daughter onto a floating platform to protect her from harm. Miraculously, the daughter escaped unharmed despite being in the water next to her mother.
Disturbing footage has emerged showing Maria lying on the sand while horrified onlookers gathered around her. Witnesses could be heard exclaiming that she had lost her leg as they waited for emergency responders to arrive. Despite the swift response from rescuers, Maria tragically succumbed to the massive bite wound on her leg, resulting in fatal blood loss.
Civil Protection workers and firefighters in the municipality of Cihuatlan, which includes Melaque Beach, stated that they were conducting support activities during a swimming event in the bay when they received reports of a person struggling to exit the sea. Upon reaching the area, they discovered Maria lifeless with one of her legs amputated, presumably due to a shark attack.
Following the incident, local authorities issued a warning to residents and visitors to avoid going into the water. A scheduled swimming race in the same waters was canceled, and swimming was prohibited as a precautionary measure in both Melaque and Barra de Navidad.
The municipal government of Cihuatlan emphasized the importance of ensuring the safety and well-being of citizens after the tragic incident. As a precautionary measure, access to the beaches has been temporarily banned. Collaborating with the appropriate authorities, they are actively assessing the situation and implementing necessary measures to guarantee beach security.
