The Uttar Pradesh Police Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) announced on Sunday that they have apprehended two individuals suspected of spying for the Pakistani intelligence agency ISI and engaging in terror financing. Amrit Gill, also known as Amrit Pal, a 25-year-old from Punjab’s Bhatinda, and Riyazuddin, a 36-year-old resident of Faridnagar in Ghaziabad, have been taken into custody.
Amrit Gill was arrested on November 23 in Bathinda and transported to the ATS on transit remand. Meanwhile, Riyazuddin was summoned to the ATS headquarters for questioning and subsequently arrested on Sunday.
The ATS received information about certain individuals receiving funds from suspicious sources, which were believed to be utilized for terrorist activities and espionage. The agency alleges that Amrit Gill and Riyazuddin were involved in transmitting sensitive and confidential information to the ISI in exchange for monetary compensation.
Following their investigation, the ATS filed a First Information Report (FIR) at their police station, naming Riyazuddin, Izharul Haq, and others as suspects. Izharul Haq is currently incarcerated in a Bihar jail, and the ATS plans to bring him to Lucknow for further questioning in connection with the ongoing case.
During the evidence collection process, the ATS examined Riyazuddin’s bank accounts and discovered transactions totaling Rs 70 lakh between March and April 2022, which were subsequently transferred to various accounts.
According to the ATS, Riyazuddin and Haq initially met while working as welders in Rajasthan and have since been collaborating as operatives for the Pakistani intelligence agency, maintaining communication with each other.
The investigation and preliminary evidence indicate that Amrit Gill was in contact with ISI agents and regularly transmitted sensitive and restricted information concerning the Indian Army. In return for his services, Gill received financial support with the assistance of Riyazuddin and Haq.
