Unexpected Turn of Events Leads to Cancellation of Telangana Oath Ceremony

The Congress party in Telangana is facing internal turmoil as it struggles to elect a Congress Legislature Party leader and proceed with an oath ceremony for the new Chief Minister. Despite crossing the magic figure in the recent elections, the party has been unable to make a decision due to its long history of vocal leaders and aspirants.

Revanth Reddy, the Telangana Congress chief, seemed to be the obvious choice for Chief Minister, with the support of Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra. However, other party leaders, including Uttam Kumar Reddy, Bhatti Vikramarka, Komatireddy Venkat Reddy, and Damodar Rajanarasimha, have voiced their opposition to Revanth Reddy’s candidature.

Critics have raised concerns about Revanth Reddy’s inexperience and his alleged involvement in bribery during his rise within the party. They argue that his lack of government experience makes him unfit for the top job. However, Revanth Reddy’s supporters highlight the fact that he has the backing of 42 MLAs, which could lead to trouble if he is denied the position.

In an attempt to gather more information, the Congress leadership has held meetings with each of the party’s 64 MLAs. Among the potential candidates for Chief Minister are Uttam Kumar Reddy, a longtime Congress member with seven election wins and close ties to the Gandhi family; Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka, a three-time MLA and former deputy speaker; Komatireddy Venkat Reddy, a senior party member with 35 years in politics; and Damodar Rajanarasimha, a former minister and deputy Chief Minister.

This internal power struggle within the Congress party is not new, as similar challenges arose in the past before YS Rajasekhara Reddy became Chief Minister of undivided Andhra Pradesh in 2004. Ultimately, the decision will rest with the party leadership, and their choice will have significant implications for the future of the Congress party in Telangana.
