US Ambassador Eric Garcetti Surprises Guests with Chaiyya Chaiyya Performance at Diwali Celebrations

US Ambassador to India, Eric Garcetti, surprised everyone at the US embassy in New Delhi with his Bollywood dance skills during a Diwali celebration event. Mr. Garcetti took the stage and danced to the hit song “Chaiyya Chaiyya,” originally featuring Shah Rukh Khan and Malaika Arora. The audience clapped and cheered as he grooved in a blue kurta and sunglasses. The video of his performance was widely shared and applauded on social media.

Satnam Singh Sandhu, the founder chancellor of Chandigarh University, praised Mr. Garcetti for his joyful spirit and interest in Diwali celebrations. He expressed his hope for a long-lasting and happy relationship between the US and India.

Since his appointment in May, Mr. Garcetti has actively immersed himself in Indian traditions. He recently celebrated Durga Puja at Delhi’s Chittaranjan Park, where he visited a pandal and enjoyed traditional Bengali delicacies. The US Ambassador also participated in Dhunuchi Naach, a dance dedicated to Goddess Durga.

In an effort to address the high demand for US visas in India, Mr. Garcetti made a surprise visit to the US visa center in Delhi to interact with applicants. Currently, the waiting period for a US visa appointment is as long as 511 days. The United States has made significant investments in its operations in India, including expanding its workforce, upgrading facilities at the US Consulate in Chennai, and inaugurating a new Consulate building in Hyderabad.
