BY Vijayendra, the newly appointed BJP Karnataka unit chief, has expressed his focus on the upcoming Lok Sabha elections. In an interview with NDTV, he stated that his agenda is to bring all senior leaders together and work towards a successful performance in the elections. Vijayendra, the son of former Karnataka Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa, also addressed the accusations of dynasty politics, stating that voters will provide a fitting reply to such claims.
Vijayendra, who is currently the MLA of Shikharipura, emphasized his commitment to the party’s goals. He was previously appointed as the BJP state vice president in 2020. His recent appointment as the state unit chief comes after months of speculation and is seen as a strategic move by the BJP.
It is noteworthy that the BJP chose a Lingayat leader to lead the state unit, a decision aligned with its strong probability of picking a leader from this community. However, the selection of Vijayendra, a first-time MLA, despite the dynastic plank, has highlighted the continued influence of his father in the party.
Vijayendra believes that the decision was made to take the party forward, and BS Yediyurappa echoed this sentiment, stating that the change was made with a focus on the future. Yediyurappa also expressed his happiness with the announcement, attributing it to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Home Minister Amit Shah, and BJP President JP Nadda.
Both Vijayendra and Yediyurappa envision a successful future for the BJP in Karnataka and aim to secure more than 25 Lok Sabha seats in the upcoming elections. Their efforts will be focused on building the party and implementing necessary changes to achieve this goal.
