Sachin Tendulkar, the legendary cricketer known to all Indian sports enthusiasts, has been honored with a life-sized statue at the Wankhede Stadium. This tribute comes on the eve of India’s World Cup clash against Sri Lanka.
Sachin Tendulkar, often regarded as the greatest cricketer of all time, has achieved numerous world records throughout his career. From most international runs and centuries to being the only player to have a century of centuries, Tendulkar’s greatness is unquestionable. However, it is not just his records that define his impact, but also the respect he commanded from his teammates and rivals.
The unveiling of the statue was attended by several notable figures, including BCCI secretary Jay Shah, Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, and Sachin’s wife Anjali Tendulkar, among others. The statue, which represents 50 years of Tendulkar’s life, has been installed by the MCA near the Sachin Tendulkar Stand at the stadium.
During the ceremony, Sudhir Kumar Chaudhary, a devoted fan of Sachin and a well-known supporter of the Indian cricket team, blew a conch shell and waved the Indian flag, adding to the celebratory atmosphere.
Tendulkar’s achievements on the cricket field are unparalleled. With 34,357 runs in 664 international appearances, he is the highest run-scorer in international cricket. He has scored 100 centuries and 164 half-centuries, making him the player with the most centuries in international cricket. Additionally, he holds the records for the highest runs in both ODIs and Tests, with 18,426 and 15,921 runs respectively.
Apart from his batting prowess, Tendulkar also contributed with his part-time spin bowling, taking 201 international wickets. His incredible career spanned 664 international appearances, making him the most-capped player of all time. Notably, he was part of the Indian team that won the ICC Cricket World Cup in 2011.
In addition to his international career, Tendulkar also participated in the Indian Premier League (IPL), representing the Mumbai Indians from 2008 to 2013. During his six seasons in the IPL, he scored a total of 2334 runs in 78 matches, with a strike rate of 119.82. His best performance came in IPL 2010, where he scored 618 runs in 15 matches, earning him the prestigious “Orange Cap” as the leading run-scorer of the season.
