The Indian cricket team faced a heart-breaking loss in the final match of the ODI Cricket World Cup 2023. Despite an impressive performance with 10 straight wins, the team led by Rohit Sharma was unable to secure victory against Australia. Pat Cummins, leading the Australian side, saved his team’s best performance for the final match and outperformed the hosts in every aspect of the game. India was first restricted to a below-par total, and Australia effortlessly chased down the target. Prime Minister Narendra Modi was present at the venue and awarded the Cricket World Cup Trophy to Australian captain Pat Cummins after the final.
Glenn Maxwell, a teammate of Pat Cummins, shared his experience of the World Cup presentation ceremony. He found it amusing to watch the videos of Cummins shaking hands with Modi and getting stuck on the podium. Maxwell mentioned that it felt like Cummins waited for about 10 minutes with the trophy, patiently waiting for the rest of the group to join him. He handled the situation with grace and did not make a fuss, showing respect and composure. Maxwell acknowledged that not everyone would have dealt with the situation as well as Cummins did.
After presenting the trophy, PM Modi visited the Indian cricket team in the dressing room. In a video shared by PIB, Modi is seen consoling the devastated team, speaking to each player individually. He acknowledged the team’s impressive streak of winning 10 consecutive games and reassured them that a single loss is normal in the game. Modi urged the players to smile, reminding them that the entire country was watching and supporting them. The prime minister also had personal interactions with players like Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, Ravindra Jadeja, Mohammed Shami, and Jasprit Bumrah, offering words of encouragement and appreciation.
The Indian cricket team had an undefeated run in the World Cup, winning 10 matches in a row before their defeat in the final against Australia.
