In an alarming announcement made between Sunday and Monday, the United Kingdom declared that it is currently investigating a series of reports concerning a rare but serious incident at sea. The incident in question involves an alleged attack on a cargo ship off the coast of Yemen, which was accompanied by an explosion allegedly heard near the vessel.

The UK’s maritime trade operations, upon receiving reports of damage to the vessel, promptly issued a statement. It read, “The military authorities are investigating. We received a report of an incident south of El Moka in Yemen. All vessels are advised to sail with caution and report any suspicious activity to the authorities.”

The commander of the vessel reported experiencing an explosion in the vicinity of the vessel, which inflicted damage. However, the captain confirmed that all crew members on board the ship were safe and accounted for.

Reports indicate that the ship in question is registered in the United Kingdom, and was reportedly “under attack” in the strategic Bab al-Mandab Strait. Interestingly, the ship is believed to be operated by Lebanon but holds a UK registration.

It’s worth noting that since January 11, Britain and the United States have been jointly carrying out airstrikes against the Houthi rebels. This effort aims to halt the ongoing attacks on commercial ships, demonstrating international determination to maintain maritime security. Other nations, including Australia, Bahrain, Canada, and the Netherlands, have also shown their support for these strikes.

The Houthi rebels, trained by Iran, have repeatedly attacked ships in the Red Sea since November of the previous year. They frequently target vessels with ties to Israel, revealing a clear and persistent threat to international trade, particularly affecting Asia, the Middle East, and Europe.
